UPCOMING EVENTS
Ryman Arts alumni have created a challenge for themselves—the alumni are trying to raise $10,000 toward the Marty Sklar Legacy Fund by the end of the year. Already alumni contributions add up to over $4,000! Help us reach the top!
The Marty Sklar Legacy Fund was launched by The Walt Disney Company in order to support young artists throughout their artistic journey in Ryman Arts to their emergence as creative professionals. In addition to hosting two Ryman Sklar Interns every year, Disney has pledged $250,000 for the fund, provided it is matched by $100,000 in contributions from others. This is where alumni are trying to help.
With over 1,000 Ryman Arts alumni to support us, each person would only need to donate $50 to reach our goal of $10,000 before the end of the year! We want to show that all alumni appreciate the gift of Ryman Arts and Marty’s leadership, therefore give whatever you can. Alumni who contribute now will be recognized at our next alumni event, Take Charge of Your Future on January 31, 2010 in Burbank.

PAST EVENTS
Thank You for Making "Take Charge of Your Future!"
A Success!!
A Ryman Arts Career event, sponsored by Partners Federal Credit Union
Our very first event of the year, Take Charge of Your Future, was outstanding! Thank you to the 70+ alumni, students and parents who were able to make this event so exciting and successful. We would like to thank Tasha Robinson and Dawn Rivera-Ernster for their great presentations on the Disney internships and how to apply for them. A special thank you to Marty Sklar who came in to give everyone words of advice and encouragement! Everyone was very excited to see him and he even stayed to take photos with some of our students. During the Managing Your Credit presentation, everyone followed along and took notes and many students and parents commented on how much they learned. Thank you Erin McDowell for providing everyone with such useful and important information! The Information Fair also went well, with many people donating for their chance to win many great prizes including a personal easel, paint sets, and Marty Sklar Disney poster. Jane Lee was the lucky winner that day, winning a total of 4 prizes! Finally, we want to thank Andreas Deja for the wonderful presentation on his work. We had the opportunity to view many of the sketches he did for Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, The Princess and the Frog and many more! He also answered many questions on what it is like to be an animator, the importance of having life drawing skills, what his creative process looks like and how he got started. He even gave a demo and stayed to take photos with our students and alumni! Overall, Take Charge of Your Future was an inspiring and successful event. Thank you to everyone who attended and made this event possible!

Catch a Rising Art Star
On May 18, 2008, Ryman Arts hosted its first ever “Catch A Rising Art Star” Art Sale. This one-day-only event, hosted at Gale’s Restaurant in beautiful, Pasadena featured paintings, drawings and photography by Ryman Arts alumni.
All participating Ryman Alumni generously donated their artwork for this event. Because of their participation and commitment to helping support the next generation of Ryman students as well as the attendance, we were able to raise enough to cover the cost of art supplies for the Fall 2008 classes.
Ryman Arts generously gave me a foundation on which to build my art education and career. I was thrilled when I learned of the opportunity to donate artwork to the "Catch A Rising Art Star" Ryman Alumni show. Knowing that the money generated from the sales of my photographs is contributing to the art education of current Ryman students is very satisfying. It is a joy to give back to the community that nurtured me as a young artist.”

The "Catch a Rising Art Star" event was very successful not only for the participating alumni artists, but for those patrons who purchased some incredible artwork for bargain basement prices. Also, there's nothing like seeing a little red SOLD dot next to your art work!"
Mariya Stepanyan (Ryman ’91)
Thank you to Ryman Alumni, friends, volunteers and guests who made our first ever “Catch A Rising Art Star” a great success. And a special thanks to Gale Kohl for providing a beautiful venue, and delicious food and drinks. We look forward to doing this again next year!
